Haven’t you heard? In Hong Kong, camera eats first! Locals (and expats!) do love eating at the newest, hippest restaurants in town but the rumors as it that they love even more documenting their visit on Instagram! If you didn’t Instagram it, did it even happen?  And I’m not judging at all as I am, myself, always meticulously documenting my restaurant wanderings on both my Instagram stories and feed (which you would now if you are following me. If not yet, here you go !). And when doing so, I not only look at the food (even though yes it’s the most important part because food is life) but also the interior. I can’t help it, I’m a sucker for photogenic interiors whether it is chabby-chic, vintage-cool or 5-star luxury!

March 2020 edit: Bibo Hong Kong has closed its doors in February 2020

Top 5 insta-worthy restaurant interiors
There was no way the only restaurant of Hong Kong to be part of the Relais & Châteaux collection (a curated selection of individually owned and operated luxury hotels and restaurants around the world) wouldn’t be part of this list of the chicest restaurant interiors in town! Is there anything more photogenic than an extensive art collection from some of the world’s most famous contemporary artists? At Bibo, you’ll get to enjoy creative French fine dining by Chef Nicholas Chew surrounded by works from Damien Hirst, Banksy, Murakami, KAWS or King of Kowloon to only name a few.

Estiatorio Keia
March 2020 edit: Estiatorio Keia is now permanently closed

Top 5 insta-worthy restaurant interiors
Floor-to-ceiling windows, extensive space brightened by natural light, open-kitchen featuring the fresh catch of the day, subtle touches of gold everywhere and colorful mosaic inspired by ocean motifs and sea creatures spread across the walls … Estiatorio Keia is the epitome of Mediterranean chic. It’s slightly bling but in a way that makes you wanna take your phone out and make sure and snap absolutely each and every corner. Nothing surprising knowing that this elegant contemporary interior was designed by 2018 Designers of the Year (Gold Key Awards New York) Sundukovy Sisters.

John Anthony

Top 5 insta-worthy restaurant interiors
Not only is John Anthony the hottest Cantonese Grill and Dim Sum restaurant you’ve ever seen, with every corner of it being highly Instagrammable, it is also probably the one with the most sustainable interior: sustainable rattan, natural hand-dyed fabrics, eco-paints, floors made with reclaimed terracotta from old Chinese village houses … Who knew sustainability could look that sexy?

Not only is La Petite Maison one of my latest foodie crush, it is also a place with a very distinctive interior mixing contemporary art with some “Belle Epoque” touches giving the spacious space that unique “je ne sais quoi”.

Another huge foodie crush this year! And not only does Louise serves great French food, it also serves it in a very vintage chic atmosphere designed by acclaimed architect Andre Fu. I can’t decide which of the dining room on 1/F, the bar area on G/F or the private event room also on G/F is the most instagrammable spot! I just wish Andre would redecorate my home … (good things always come to those daring to dream big ;p).
