Food Cravings – luxurious treats

Food cravings are back!
We’ve been covering a few cravings already with our first three editions: Italian food (and if you’re in the mood for an Italian feast, check out our newly published review of Gia Trattoria … super yummy), French casual food and Steak (for the carnivorous out there). But there is one guilty foodie pleasure I haven’t admitted yet: I do like to treat myself to luxurious food from time to time.

Aren’t you craving foie gras sometimes? I definitely am. You can take the girl out of France but you can’t take France out of the girl!

On the menu today?

-   Jamon Iberico but not just any Iberico ham! Joselito – declared The Best Ham in the World
-   Caviar (yes I do crave Caviar from time to time!)
-   Foie gras

Ok today is definitely not a low profile kinda day but you know me, always very serious when it comes to food and I am a true believer that one must treat himself to a touch of luxury from time to time. Some will invest in designer clothes, others will treat themselves to 5-stars travels or experiences, as for me I love my touch of luxury to go straight into my tummy! Nothing I love more than always making sure I have one of the followings in my fridge:

IBERICO HAM

Food Cravings – luxurious treats
But again not just any Iberico Ham. After tasting several ones, I found THE one: Joselito. No wonder why The Joselito brand can be found in 90% of two and three-Michelin star restaurants. Sorry if I am being posh but I want only the best.

I love Iberico ham but there’s one thing I don’t like about it: when it’s too greasy. I like my Iberico ham to be fatty (of course! That’s the all point after all) but I don’t like it to be fat only, I’m also looking for some tender meat. And I believe that feeding the pigs to acorns and grass only definitely makes a difference. The taste is different, stronger, deeper and more interesting. Oh sorry, you wanted a slice of it? But guys, that’s too late … next time make sure to be quicker, I cannot hold it whenever this little piggy treat is around I need to eat it all.

CAVIAR

Food Cravings – luxurious treats
Yes caviar. I mean, aren’t we allow to be super posh from time to time? Well that’s my little posh pleasure in life: treating myself to a spoonful of caviar.

Where do I get my caviar in Hong Kong? From The Royal Caviar Club.
Why this one? First of all, it is available on FeedMeGuru so super easy to find and just one click away from being delivered straight to your door.
Then because it’s not just any caviar but A-grade once sourced all-around the world depending the season but only coming from premier sturgeon farmed in large rivers and lakes similar to wild surgeons. So tasty!

HOW TO EAT CAVIAR

Some might tell you that the only proper way to enjoy caviar is the traditional way. Well, if you ask me it’s not the only way but it’s a pretty nice one for sure!

  1. Caviar should always be served chilled so make sure to keep it in the fridge between -2°C and 2°C
  2. Take time and enjoy the beauty of caviar. It can be light to dark brown, sometimes even golden colour. The colour does not define the quality but the texture definitely does: it should be firm and not smashed.
  3. Place caviar on the back of your hand between thumb and index finger where the warmth liberates the aromas
  4. Once caviar in your mouth, kindly roll the eggs and spread them on your palate with your tongue

But there are a few other ways I love my Caviar:
-   A spoonful on top of my soft-boiled egg
-   On top of a spoonful of mashed potatoes – loving the hot & cold contrast
-   On top of a salmon tartar (inspired by Robuchon) for a very iodized dish

FOIE GRAS

Food Cravings – luxurious treats
I’m French, I cannot help it and God knows I do love my foie gras. But hey don’t, mess with me … that duck liver pâté ain’t foie gras! I’d rather like not to have any foie gras at all than having a cheap one. I know I’m posh, so what?

Where do I get my foie gras from in Hong Kong? From Plantin Kaviari  or from Maison Argaud
