Pane e Latte: a seaside panetteria

Pane e Latte: a seaside panetteria
by Aude Camus

Pane e Latte, which literally stands for bread and milk, is Pirata Group’s latest concept and their first ever bakery concept. From breakfast to Aperitivo, you can expect artisanal breads, pastries, cakes, pizza al taglio and focaccia sandwiches fresh from the oven. Cherry on the cake: it’s served with Pirata Group’s signature hospitality which I personally believe is the best in town.

Interior Design

Pane e Latte: a seaside panetteria
Located in Stanley, Pane e Latte enjoys a great seaside location and the place has been imagined to harness natural light and embark you on a trip to coastal Italy. Cue floor-to-ceiling windows, terracotta tones and terracotta tiles, antiques from Milan, pillow covers in soft gelato tones and family photographs from Italian beachside holidays.

The place is quite big and definitely convey a touch of Italian hospitality and Dolce Vita. I love the counters at the centre, from which you can choose and order your food.

I haven’t had a chance to visit the downstairs space yet but heard it hosts the bakery where artisanal breads and pastries are handmade individually and also a gelateria from which to order a frozen treat.

Food

Pane e Latte: a seaside panetteria
With such a name, you won’t be surprised to hear bread and baked goods are the star of this Italian show.

Whether it is a Bombolini, an Italian doughnut filled with crema pasticerra, a Croissant Bombolini, with delicate orange blossom cream filling, fresh danishes or varieties of bread ranging from Focaccia Pugliese and ciabatta to baguette, that you came here for, you are in for a baked treat.

The short and simple all-day menu include options such as salads, focaccia sandwiches and plated dishes.

Must-order dishes:

The Truffle Croissant (HKD 128), offering the perfect combination of buttery layers of flake pastry, truffle scrambled eggs and fresh truffles flakes. A real treat perfect for brunch.

Pane e Latte: a seaside panetteria
The Bufalina (HKD 48), a pizza in pala – pizza hailing from Roma with a distinctive rectangular shape and a name referencing the wooden long-handled shovel-like tool used to slide it in and out of the oven. Simplicity at its best and the living proof that all you need are a few good ingredients – fresh homemade pizza dough, tomato sauce and fresh buffalo mozzarella – to make a tasty dish.

Pane e Latte: a seaside panetteria
The Mortarium (HKD 58), another pizza in pala featuring mortadella, chickpea cream and mozzarella.

Must-takeaway treats:

Pane e Latte: a seaside panetteria
The Bombolini. I’ve personally tried and approved the lemon and hazelnut gianduja versions.
