Inspired by Japanese live action series of the 1960’s, MUSUBI HIRO is a vibrant den which plates up modern izakaya snacks and the largest variety of musubi creations in town, served alongside sake and tasty cocktails.

Mural art, by students and talents from the Hong Kong Design Institute, sets the scene inside and outside the restaurant giving you an opportunity to enjoy unique views of Hong Kong’s skyline and landmarks. The 50 seats of the restaurants are spread across two levels and I recommended heading down to the lower bar where you’ll find the above mentioned mural art but also retro posters and stickers. MUSUBI HIRO presents an eclectic mix of underground and Japanese cultures with just a touch of hype and I love it.
 
 
Drinks
 
The drink menu is short but on point with two choices of sake (carafe), craft beer on tap, a selection of four wines (carafe) and a few cocktails and mocktails. A good point is the very attractive pricing with carafes of sake and wine priced between HKD 148 and HKD 152 for 250ml, pints at HKD 58 or HKD 78 and most cocktails under HKD 100.

The Hiro Wasake Sour (HKD 88) offering a refreshing, and slightly spicy, take on whisky sour. Cue wasabi and sake for a drinks that is addictively dangerous.
 
What’s more is that if you buy a round of shots for the entire bar, you’ll be painted on the wall by the young artists from the Hong Kong Design Institute.
 

Food

Must-order dishes:
 
The Pickled Winter Salad (HKD 58), it doesn’t look like much but this salad featuring homemade pickles is just the fresh and sour thing you need to balance all of that rice from the misubi.
 
The Holy Nomomo Eggplant (HKD 98). This creative take on traditional Momo – Nepalse dumplings - mixes influences from a Nepalese staff of the restaurant (Momo) with founder Arturo Sims’s favourite ingredient – eggplant – and offer a fusion dishes that tastes like Momo without having Momo in it. Thus the Nomomo name.
 
The Quack Duck Musubi (HKD 118), my favourite of the night.
 
The OMG Sea Urchin Musubi (HKD 268) because I just can’t say no to sea urchin.
