Basehall 02 gathers homegrown culinary talents under one roof
by Aude Camus

A collaboration between high-end property developer Hongkong Land and local F&B outlets, Basehall 01 has opened its doors in 2020. Gathering up and coming F&B businesses under one roof, at the very heart of Central, it has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting food halls in town. Building up on this success, Basehall 02 has recently opened its doors, tripling the size of the overall Basehall food hall, and bringing even more exciting dining options to the basement of prime Jardine House.

If Basehall 01 was primarily dedicated to bringing trending Hong Kong restaurants in the same space, Basehall 02 is on a mission to shine the spotlight on some of the city’s favourite culinary institutions. And local cuisine shines particularly bright in this new space.

You can order what’s considered one of the best roast geese in town, and other delicious, barbecued items, from Kamcentre Roast Goosse kiosk. Handmade dumplings crafted following an age-old family recipe are to be ordered from Michelin-recommended Ah Chun Shandong Dumpling restaurant, originally based in Lai Chi Kok. And if you’re craving noodles and cha chaan teng classics, look no further than On Lee Noodle Shop. For a taste of chiu chow cuisine, you can order something from the aptly named Chiu Chow delicacies, a North Point restaurant serving specialties such as a sliced soy-marinated goose.

Michelin-recommended Hot and Meen is here to deliver that Sichuan spice and their signature dumplings in Sichuan spicy and sour sauce are as hot as they are addictive. And you can cool down the fire with the Taiwanese street food from Both Street, a Michelin-recommended restaurant coming all the way to Central from Yuen Long, including handmade stuffed bun. But be quick, they only serve a limited quantity of this gua bao every day.

True to the original vision of Basehall, which was all about gathering buzzing names under the same roof, Basehall 02 also offers space to trending eateries. There’s the now cult Japanese wagyu tsukemen from Mashi no Mashi, Korean home-style bites from Moyo, seabream ramen from Maru de Sankaku and age-pork tonkatsu from Porker. And for those of us with a sweet tooth, daily baked chunky cookies, soft serves, and milkshakes are available at Cookie Vission kiosk.

I personally love that Basehall 02 is all about enjoying great, affordable, food with no fuss. But if you’d like to go fancy, it’s also doable at the 18-seater restaurant and speakeasy bar Artifact. This concept created exclusively for the food hall serves a caviar-focused degustation menu and a list of beverages that highlights rare brown spirits.

Stay tuned as more exciting news are coming your way including pop-up events in the event space, designed in collaboration with Test Kitchen, and the opening of a Basehall 02 supermarket.
