Veggi Monsters: vegan burgers

February 7th 2018

Since the closing of Home: Eat to Live I didn’t really know where to go for a good vegan burger. That’s why I was so pleased to hear about a newly opened shop in Sheung Wan, serving 100% organic, 100% vegan burgers at very reasonable prices.

Unlike our deeply missed Home, Veggi Monster is a tiny little shop, hidden in a small street next to the Western Market. Not really a restaurant, it’s more like a stall, no table, no seats, only Take-away.

Menu is very small as well with only 6 different signature burgers, one sourdough sandwich and a couple of salads. You can add a drink and some fries but choice is limited. What is not tiny is the size of the burger. Generous, it’s filled with a nice amount of veggies, sauce and a big vegan steak.
Green, black, white or pink, they all have funny names:
  • The Dark Giant, made of organic black bean and quinoa, topped with melted non-dairy cheese, Portobello mushrooms, truffle sauce, kale and tomato is the most surprising one
  • The Flame Rex has spicy beetroot
  • The Snow Yati with white truffle, filled with eggplants is very tasty
  • The Forest Guardian with its broccolis and peas is the lightest
 All sauces are dairy-free.

Don’t go there if you are looking for comfort but rather for comfort food which makes the planet happy.
Don’t go there if you are looking for variety but for a reasonably-priced healthy bite on the go, it makes the job.

Oh, and they sell metal straws with cleaning brushes for HKD 30, so they get a big thumbs up for being eco-conscious.
