The Wonder Room at The Peninsula Hong Kong, an urban oasis

If you are reading my articles on a regular basis, you know I am lucky enough to attend quite a number of tastings so you would assume it takes a bit of effort to surprise me. Well, earlier this week, The Peninsula Hong Kong did totally nail the surprise part! For the first time of my life I was invited at dining, not surrounded by art pieces but, inside an art piece: The Wonder Room.

The Wonder Room at The Peninsula Hong Kong, an urban oasis
The Wonder Room is an urban oasis imagined by Lu Zhi-gang, Architect and Founder of MINAX and MINAXDO (editor’s note: architecture and design) and is quite a unique experience. You will first be guided through a dark corridor before entering an anteroom at the back of which you can see the wooden installation.
The dark anteroom is a place for you to quiet your mind, change your shoes and slip into comfy slippers and leave the hustle and bustle behind.  You are now ready to enter the egg-like structure free of any stress and remain present in that Zen-inspired place. Seating in that structure, which can accommodate a maximum of 4 people, feels like being in a wooden cocoon. Off we are, embarking on an experimental culinary odyssey free of any outside disturbance.

You’ll be greeted to Champagne before being presented with the bento-inspired menu. When I say bento, I mean Peninsula style bento. Curate by The Peninsula culinary team, the menu offers the best ingredients ranging from Breton Lobster to Caviar, Fresh Mediterranean Vegetables or Black Truffle.

You are in for a feast of all senses! And a very unique experience because The Wonder Room won’t travel anywhere after that and will be dissembled.
