Stephane L’s top tip
Sea, sun and sand

Amber Sands has to be deserved, you will need to travel for 5 hours by car and by boat from Bangkok to arrive at Koh Chang, unless you fly to Trat. If you like calm, the sound of the sea and the sparkle of the stars, away from any sound or visual pollution, this place is for you! Only 8 rooms facing the sea with the tropical mountains as a backdrop. The restaurant is on stilts, feet in the mangrove. We preferably take off our shoes and help ourselves at the bar if the waiter is away. Lounge atmosphere around low tables or more family-like around a large table with games and books on display. The only down side: swimming, because even though the sea is omnipresent, you have to wander away from the hotel to find clear water and white sand. The South African owners are lovely and organize your outings with carefully picked partners. We tested the cookery course, diving, elephant-back trekking in the jungle and the massage in a booth facing the sea, nothing to complain about! And for the adventurous, scooters can be delivered at the hotel to discover deserted beaches and true gems along the preserved coastline, of which Amber Sand marks the entrance.

We therefore recommend this place to lovers of nature, reading, laid back atmosphere and unpretentious charm and also for small groups of friends and families with young children. It really did us a lot of good!

Rate: between 400 and 800 HKD per night excluding breakfast, depending on the season and the type of room.
