Qura: Regent Hong Kong’s bar boasts some of the best skyline views, and more.

It’s always risky to declare something the best, but when it comes to hotel views in the Fragrant Harbour, Hong Kong Regent reigns supreme. From its Harbour View rooms (click here to read all about my one-night stay at the property) and Lobby Lounge, serving my favourite afternoon tea in town, to its dining outlets including Nobu and its coveted Harbourside buffet, each corner of the hotel offers mesmerizing skyline vistas. Their latest venue, Qura makes no exception.

More than a bar, Qura takes its name from the word curator. Imagine a fictitious explorer, traversing the globe in search of the rarest spirits, now sharing his collection with Hong Kong. Inspired by his adventures, the venue's design exudes charm and sophistication.

The Design

Envisioned by BAR Studio, Qura boasts an eclectic collection of refurbished vintage furniture, antique objects, and Art Deco elements, creating a spark contrast with the skyscrapers soaring outside the windows, and the more contemporary - and zen, aesthetic of the rest of the property. To put it in my own words, stepping into Qura felt like entering the apartment of a very rich aunt with an exquisite taste for collecting rare curiosities.

The venue is divided into four distinctive spaces. The journey is reminiscent of a (lavish) dinner invitation. Start with aperitifs in the drawing room, then move to the dining lounge for dinner, followed by cigars in the cigar lounge and a nightcap at the bar.

Speaking of the bar, it’s a piece of art in itself – backlit and made of rose quartzite complimented by handblown Murano lighting.

The Beverage Menu

Whether you’re in a for a taste of rarity, and exceptional, or for cocktails, bar manager Gennaro Pucci has you covered.

In terms of cocktails, you can choose between 10 spirit-based libations (all priced at HKD 190) and three vintage-spirit based creations. I’ve personally loved the refreshing and slightly spicy Brightside with Ratafia Rossi la Rossa liqueur and London Essence tonic topped with a house-made cinnamon foam.

Rare wines and spirits come from around the globe and there’s legendary bottles available within this wall including the historic 'Ferrand Distilled Before 1914,' offering a taste of pre-World War I craftsmanship. Qura also boasts a partnership with Château Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and therefore offers some of the finest vintage from the celebrated Burgundy vineyards.

The Food Menu

Bar snacks are available to order in the drawing room and in the bar but if you’re in for something more substantial, you can also book a table in the dining lounge where bistro-inspired dishes are the order of the day. Cue marinated bell peppers with anchovies (HKD 190), seared seabass Grenobloise (HKD 440), baby lamb shoulder Aveyron (HKD 588). Don’t miss out on the sides: truffles French fries (HKD 110) and mashed potatoes (the chef is a Robuchon alumni … if you know, you know) for the win.

In a nutshell

Perfect place for a date night or for an intimate gathering with selected-few epicurean friends.
