Junk boating all summer long!

Is it me or does it feel like summer has not yet started in Hong Kong? I'm blaming the gloomy weather of the past few months for that. I was thinking about it the other day and realized that I have hardly spent two days on a boat this year when in previous years I would have spent at least already six Saturday or Sunday on a junk by mid-July.

Well, enough is enough ... I won't let this weather ruin one of my fav things to do on a Hong Kong summer. Time for me to plan my next junk boat adventure. And you should do the same!

The only thing I don’t really like about a junk day (I mean, rosé all day, music, sun and sea diving … what is there not to like?) is actually organizing it. Always like it better when I am not the organizer and just an invitee. But you know how it is, you sometimes have to make an effort so I agreed to my friends that I will be the one organizing the next one.

Did a little bit of research in order to find a solution where I could have it all: a boat, inflatable toys, food and why not banana boat for a bit of extra fun. And finally decided to go for SEA E O BOATING.

We all know it’s not that hard to organize a junk especially when you can always choose an all-inclusive package but still, shall we go through the perfect junk day check-list together?

Chose the best itinerary and make the best of your day out in Hong Kong’s bay

Where to get picked-up?
This time, I’ll go for Central. It’s more convenient for me and my invitees and gives me a bit more boat options to choose from but always keep in mind that most boat rental companies like SEA E O BOATING  will either offer boarding on Hong Kong Island or in Sai Kung. Some can also arrange pick-up in other locations such as Discovery Bay but it will come with an additional fee.

Where do we want to go?
Clearwater Bay? Repulse Bay? Deepwater Bay? I mean why not? The only thing is, if you ask me, too many boats usually go those places and I definitely prefer quieter spots such as Lamma Island or small bays around Sai Kung.
I actually do know a little secret place where the water is turquoise, the sand is white and there’s usually no other boats or just a very few. Ok ok I’m telling you, but you have to promise not to tell anybody! Just ask your skipper to take you to Bluff Island … you’ll love it!

Don’t forget the food and … the drinks!

I’m just tired of always eating the same food on a junk. I’m a foodie, I love my food, I leave for my food  and I’d like my invitees to be fueled with good food. I actually believe food should always be a highlight of the day. But one thing I am looking for is convenience. I mean I don’t feel like calling different food providers, compare their menu and prices and spend hours on this. I want something easy and good. Another reason why I went for Sea-E-O and their appealing catering options.

I’m still trying to decide if I want to order their Asian menu or if I actually want the junk to take us for seafood lunch to a restaurant on Lamma Island or Po Toi before heading to the beach for water activities!

I mean, how pretty cool is this second option? Plus, they can also arrange the drinks.  God, I do love an all-inclusive package. I understand that some people might not like it, and it’s good that you don’t have to go for all-inclusive if you don’t wish too, but it makes my life easier!

Pack the day with fun activities

On a junk, people usually want more than just swimming in the sea and tanning on the deck and there are plenty of options to satisfy them: floating mattress, water trampoline, floating lounge, water slide, banana boat, wakeboard, standup paddle, karaoke … just name it, one of their boats will have it.

Well, well, seems like we got everything covered right?

Oh and for those of you in the back saying that junk boats are so overrated or “déjà-vu”, I don’t agree with you but I do hear you. This is why, I also though other sea adventures that you might enjoy. Wouldn’t sailing be a fun thing to do? Sitting back and enjoying the sun and breeze on a catamaran? Another option would be to upgrade the party and hop on a luxury cruiser or superyacht. For the night owls, all the above is also available for evening trips. There definitely is something magical about cruising the Hong Kong Harbour at night.
