I gave birth to my first child mid-June. A life changing experience to say the least but one that I have been lucky enough to tackle with confidence and feeling great in both my body and my mind. Pregnancy and childbirth can be hard on you but I have to say they were pretty smooth on me. Take the body side of things: I only gained 12-13 kgs, do not observe more cellulite than before on my body and didn’t see any stretch marks appearing while I was pregnant. Oh, and have already lost most of the weight I gained. No, I’m not bragging, just giving you an honest picture of where I am at now. And if I am being honest then I must say the last few little extra kgs are not easy to lose. I know they are nothing more than a figure on a scale, I see that I can already fit in all my clothes from before being pregnant but I can’t help it and feel both depressed and helpless when I think of those 3-4 extra kgs. Not to mention that:
  • Now that I can work out again, the gyms are closed and I find it hard to resume my fitness routine from home after a two months break. I used to exercise at least 4 times a week before giving birth … I cannot wait to be able to hit the gym again.
  • Motherhood is amazing. But it’s also exhausting. Especially when you also have a full-time job, which I am already back at, and a side project such as Hong Kong Madame. And when tired or stress, I tend to use food as a comforter.

In a nutshell, I haven’t been working out that much lately but kind of indulging on good food so it was about time someone gave me a kick up the backside. I decided to turn to Eatology to take me back on the right path aka the healthy one.

Why did I go for a meal plan?
Convenience!  With a newborn baby and a full-time job, I feel like I have enough on my plate without having to worry about visiting a nutritionist and cooking meals based on the named nutritionist’s recommendations. I wanted my meal to be nutritionist-approved and delivered to my doorsteps without having to worry, or even think, about anything.

How did I choose my meal plan?
I could have gone for a plan to boost my metabolism and help me build strength or for a plan to help me live a healthier life but this time my objective was very clear: losing a bit of weight in just a few days to get me started and give me the motivation to keep going. But I also needed something that would provide me with enough food aka energy to keep me going through long days (having a newborn, my day usually starts around 6.30 am before I head off to work and then work on Hong Kong Madame at night after completing my work day with my full-time job). And finally, something that would taste good enough for me not too want to give-up right after the first meal.

I have tried Ketogenic and Paleo diets before. It made me wanna kill people. Food is my mood booster. A simple but yummy meal can brighten my days when a bad meal can put me in a very gloomy mood for hours. I needed a meal plan that would still had me looking forward to meal time, not quite like the one or two ones I had tried before. I went for Eatology’s Mediterranean Diet. No fuss, just a plan full of common sense with meals that are satisfying while being low in sugar, high in fibers and with an emphasis on plant-based eating and healthy fats such as olive oil. Cherry on the cake, it’s a diet that is rather easy to replicate at home once you know the dos and don’ts of it.

What did I eat?

How Eatology helped me with my postpartum weight loss
Here is what 4 days of meals (1800 calories a day – breakfast / snack / lunch / snack / dinner) looked like:
Day 1: Honey, Blueberries, Strawberries, Wholewheat Mix Berries Pancake / Mediterranean Organic Quinoa Salad / Poached Organic Chicken Curry, Roasted Cauliflower with Garlic & Lime / Apricot Cashew Balls / Steamed Halibut with Tamari, Creamy Spinach
Day 2: Passion Fruit Oatmeal / Cabbage & Pomegranate Salad / Marinara, Organic Porcini with Buckwheat, Italian Grass-fed Beef meatballs / Greek Salad / Herb Citrus Roasted Organic Chicken, Stir-Fry Vegetables
Day 3: Turkey Organic Omelet, Herb Roasted Carrots Potatoes and Green Beans / Cucumber Roll Ups / Bourguignon Grass-fed Beef, Vicky Carrots / Fruit Salad / Thai Organic Chicken Stir-Fry, Pineapple Fried Rice
Day 4: Huevos Rancheros / Korean Potato Pancakes / Thai Grass-fed Beef Salad / Organic Chia Mango Pudding / Mushrooms Stuffed Turkey, Fragrant Buckwheat

Did it meet my expectations?
Yes, it did. I lost more weight than I was expecting to, in just a few days. I didn’t feel frustrated. And even though not all meals were a hit, most of them were good enough to still have me feeling happy to seat at the dining table.

I also loved that the meals were delivered in biodegradable packings. Looking after your health is great, doing so without compromising the health of the planet is even better. Don’t you think?

Would I do it again?
Punctually and whenever I have a precise goal to meet definitely yes!
