Guest of the month – Shirley Yablonsky unveils her favourite addresses in HK

Hong Kong Madame launches a new « Guest of the month » section! With Art Basel in town, Art Central and the Hong Kong Arts Festival, Hong Kong in March is swarming with culture! As such it was naturally fitting to start this series by inviting the talented Shirley Yablonsky, Director of the Opera Gallery Hong Kong * since its opening in 2004, to be this month’s guest to follow!

My favourite restaurant
For casual downtime with my family and close friends I love Limewood, the new beach restaurant in the Pulse, Repulse Bay. They have a great fusion of Southeast Asian food with a view of the sea at their doorstep. It's a truly refreshing venue in Hong Kong and reminds me of my home in the Mediterranean!

My favourite bar
Mrs. Pound. It's this hidden place tucked away off of Pound Lane in Central. It's disguised as an old stamp shop and can only be opened with this secret switch that opens the sliding doors and reveals this cool, charming little joint. I love that it requires a bit of effort to find it. They have great drinks, music and ambiance too, but only if you can get a seat!

My favourite spa
I'm a loyal groupie of the Mandarin Landmark Spa. I prefer the boutique feel of their intimate space rather than some of the larger spas around town. From the moment the elevator door opens to the spa I am propelled into another universe. Absolutely divine.
Another favourite is Evidens de Beauté by Helen Ma in central offering amazing facials - takes five years off my face with each visit!

My favourite getaway
The ultimate getaway for my husband and I is the Maldives. It is truly paradise on earth: sun, sea, marine life, complete disconnect from the outside world.

My favourite book
My bible and go-to book while awaiting the arrival of my twin girls was 'The Secrets of the Baby Whisperer' by Tracy Hodd and Melinda Blau. Three years later and the book has yet to leave my bedside!

Never without my... 'iPhone, of course. An unfortunate truth!'

My favourite artist
I am surrounded by so many great artists and beautiful artwork, it's hard to choose just one. Today I am totally in love with the work of Icelandic artist Katrin Fridriks, who paints these explosive abstract compositions with a hint of Japanese calligraphy. Looking at her paintings immediately makes me feel energized and positive about the world.
