DENG G: the real sichuanais in Wanchai

Deng Huadong, does it ring a bell? Yet he is one of the most famous chef in Asia, especially in China. The good news is: he just landed in Hong Kong with a 100% sichuanese restaurant. I have to admit, I was a bit scared for my mouth and tangue when I decided to try. Usually sichuanese means so hot and spicy !

Don’t be afraid, it is not the case here. Well, I won’t lie, it is still a bit spicy (it is sichuanais !), but even after 5,10 or even 15 bites, you can still apreciate each new dishes and flavor. Fortunately, because Mister Deng did not steal his reputation and stars. Dishes are so numerous and different that I would have a hard time trying to recommend just one or two for you. My suggestion is to go with a bunch of friends (as many as possible), order several dishes and make those turn on the central round tray. The traditional way !  Because I am cool, I will still give you some advices: Yu Xiang prawns (spicy and savoury), steamed eggplants with chili (so tender), smoked duck, Mapo Tofu (this one is hot…), pork dumplings, and please don’t forget the signature one : the crispy fish in spicy sauce.
The architect honoured wood and bamboos, so zen….. we love it.

On the 2nd floor the stylish bar is perfect to enjoy a couple of glass of wines, with a selection of Chinese appetizers.

A good choice to discover or re-discover typical Chinese cuisine.
