by Aude Camus

The latest social-distancing measures issued by the HK government are another hard hit for the FnB industry. Over the past few months, the industry has been suffering and Hong Kong is now left with restaurants and bars being closed by the hundreds and counting. More than ever, supporting the industry is crucial. I myself have been trying my best to show some support one bite at a time, visiting my favourite restaurants and eating out as much as possible (which is easy when you just love food as much as I do). Another way I found to show some support to the local economy is by featuring inspiring entrepreneurs who are calling Hong Kong home and are battling, on a daily basis, to make it the exciting and vibrant city that we know. Camille Lisette Glass, French American restaurateur and co-founder, together with her business partner George Kwok, of Brut! and Pondi, is one of them. Little did I know, when I shared my questions with her early July, that Hong Kong would be facing a third wave and that she would be facing, together with all the restaurateurs in town, the most sweeping ever so far restrictions on operating her business.

Hey Camille. Thanks for taking the time to answer those few questions. Can you start by quickly introducing yourself?

Please call me Cami, most people do. I’m a young restauranteur in Sai Ying Pun, doing my best to build spaces that represent our cities eclectic communities and which celebrate forward thinking food and wine philosophies.

From the moment I arrived in Hong Kong, I was so deeply inspired by the city’s culture and its cuisine that all I wanted was to figure out a way to be a part of it. I wanted to design my future to be exactly what I had always dreamt of. I wanted to create something that would add value and layers of love to the city that had changed my whole life. It’s so much through Brut! and Pondi and Fat Chad’s that I’m able to give back to the city that gave me so much.

Fat Chad’s is your next baby and not open yet, right?
Right! Fat Chad’s “Your Boozy Bodega” is set to open early August and will be a true neighborhoud deli. Everything from delicious New York style sandwiches, to tubs of homemade ice cream to natural wines, beers and other boozy delights will be on offer in our little community grocery store.

What about Brut! and Pondi, how would you describe each venue in just a few words?

Brut is an exploration of contemporary Hong Kong flavours and cultures. It was my first venue in partnership with George Kwok and together we decided to build a space where our cultures could blend together in perfect harmony. The wine program is unpretentious and ever rotating. Constantly celebrating like-minded wine makers around the world who are expressing themselves in the most deliciously exciting ways possible.

Pondi is an odd to Pondicherry in South East India. George and I partnered up with longtime friend and wildly talented chef Taran Chadha to create a place that explores traditions from our Indian, French and Chinese backgrounds.

We wanted to bring a place of serenity to our community where food and wine could be enjoyed in a space that felt just like home.

The wine list at both Brut! and Pondi is very much focusing on artisanal New World and/or forgotten wines. I heard through thee grapevine that you are passionate about such wines. Why so?

First and foremost, I love a good underdog.
That said though, I love New World wines because, just like me and many of us in Hong Kong, they are the product of a multicultural background and therefore presenting a unique blend of experiences and “savoir-faire”. Winemakers around the new world are not presented with the same restrictions that exist in Europe and therefore are able to mix and blend - to create freely. As for the forgotten wines such as the sherries that we feature at Pondi - I have a soft spot for the origins of most things. Craftsmanship on every level is something to be celebrated and kept alive. There is beauty in tradition just as there is beauty in evolution. I believe in finding your own balance and showcasing it however you can.

What would you say has been, so far, your deepest challenge as an entrepreneur in Hong Kong?
Honestly, this year has been the most difficult year of our careers. Between the protests and now the Covid, our industry has really taken a beating. The uncertainty of it all has been…hard. The silver lining though is that I feel like we are so much more capable then we ever could have imagined. I’m incredibly grateful to have such an inspiring team of people on my side coupled with an incredible community here in SYP that have made these hard times feel so much more bearable.

And the greatest reward?
There’s a special kind of magic that happens when our dining room is full of smiling and happy energy.

There’s literally no better feeling in the world than knowing that you’ve made an impact on your community for the better.

What does a typical day in your life look like?
I tend to get up around 9am and trail run around the peak before heading to the restaurants. I do tons of wine tastings in the afternoons with my amazing suppliers before setting up for service. I’m on the floor at Brut! most nights, mingling with customers and pouring my latest wine finds. More often than not, our team will gather after work to wind down over a few glasses and catch up with each other. We use that time to discuss our hopes and dreams for the restaurants. It’s all pretty cute, we’re very fortunate.

Being a foodie, what are the places you love in Hong Kong:

for a drink (or two): I’m a big fan of Sake so I love going to see our girl Momo at Sake Bar Ginn. She’s an incredible sake samurai and very gracious host. Love the gang at Shady Acres as well. It’s one of my favourite Sunday afternoon hangouts.

to stock up on wine: OZ Terroir. Emmanuel has such a cool collection of exciting Australian wines. I’m a big fan of what he’s done.

for brunch: I’m a dim sum girl. Any dim sum. Anytime.

for a dinner date: Okra. I really get behind everything that they do. I credit Max (editor’s note: Mex Levy, Executive Chef) with being one of the most talented chefs I’ve ever met.

for a lunch with friends: We’ve been doing a lot of lunch dates at Samsen in Sheung Wan lately. Really great food, fun casual setting and so close to home!

      by Aude Camus

Around a year ago, I was invited to join a full moon meditation at the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong. I’m not really into meditation but was intrigued enough by the invitation mentioning flowers mandala (I find those symbolic Hinduist designs beautifully fascinating) and post-meditation Champagne (I mean, I can never say no to Champagne) to think “why not?”. The meditation was led by Shoshana Weinberg, whom I have met before and knew to be the Senior Director of Spa Asia Pacific for the hotel group. What I didn’t know is that she also was a wellness practitioner herself, bringing more than 20 years of experience and wisdom to the room. Let me tell you it was quite a night! I was absolutely overwhelmed with emotions and experienced a unique sense of community and bliss, being gathered in that room with women from all nationalities and all backgrounds. I couldn’t believe the energy; the electricity Shoshana was sharing with us. So, it didn’t really come to me as surprised when, end of 2019, I heard she was not going back to the hotel group after her maternity leave but was instead deciding to focus on her herbalist practice and launching a brand/community: TovEarth.

The situation has been such lately that I haven’t been able to find the time to properly catch-up with her, sit and listen to her story. Still, I wanted to share more about Tov Earth with you so decided to send a few questions to Shoshana hoping she will be willing to share her dreams, passions and wisdom with us. Which she did, in pure Shoshana’s style, answering my questions through WhatsApp voice notes she recorded while doing a run out in the wild.

Hi Shoshana! Can you quickly introduce yourself? Who are you? What brought you to Hong Kong?
I have been a practicing herbalist for more than 20 years and have studied different types of meditation healing since I was in my early 20s. I have known many different professional lives, but wellness and meditation have always been at the center of it all. My career started at an ayurvedic skincare clinic where we would see people for skin concerns and treat their mind in order to be able to treat their body because everything that happens on the skin is just a reflection of what’s happening inside you. With that experience, I went into following a more corporate path and joined the Orient Express Hotels Group (today known as Belmond) to help opening spas all around the world. It was an amazing experience until I blown out my thyroid which forced me to reconsider my life and slow things down, going back to my roots and my herbal medicine practice. It was also at that time that I met my husband and we had our first baby.

I believe that life is a succession of cycles. And I could feel that a new cycle was starting for me. I had gone from herbalist to corporate and back to herbalist and felt that the corporate world was calling me again. Back then, 10 years ago, we were living in New-Zealand but the opportunities I was looking at were between South-East Asia and Hong Kong. Hong Kong which I had refused to move to 4 years before. Just because it was not the right time then. But being in this new cycle, I knew Hong Kong was now calling me and so I took the chance to join the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong. I always thought that I would spend 4-5 years maximum with them before moving to a new cycle but when I reached that 4 years deadline I had my second baby and also moved to a new role, a regional one, to oversee the development of spas in Asia so here I was, embarking on a new cycle but still with the same group. I spent 9 years with them in total, until I was pregnant again last year and had to ask myself “what is it that I’m here to do?”. That’s when TovEarth comes in.

It was easy for me to leave the corporate world because I had the support of my husband Gonzalo. It was just perfect timing for me to kind of sprout.

Can you tell me a bit more about TovEarth?
In essence, it is a community of people (healers, non-healers) who come together to bring power back into the people’s medicine:

Herbs

Touch

Sounds

Gatherings

Secret ceremony

Indigenous thoughts

Mixing those people’s medicine with modern days knowledge. The community really is at the heart of it all. It all started with this community, which is now encompassing more than 150 women, and then a smaller part of men, and growing. From that, I started to lead herbal classes and then workshops with other healers around the world who are willing to share their beliefs and their knowledges for let’s say “not the going rate” of what they would normally charge. So, it’s almost like a school really where both beginners and advanced in healing can learn.

To give you an example, our next workshop is with the Oxford Astrologer: Reimagining the zodiac. And I have some heavy duties astrologers that are joining us because they wanna hear her wisdom. It’s a community where people are willing to give and receive.

I also now sell these herbal concoctions that are all made from home. And I do consultations using Ayurveda as a base (yet my toolbox is quite packed with so many other resources) to bring awakening to people. I’ve also been blessed to go to people places for special moment of their life and do private ceremonies to bring the knowledge that I have.

How did you first experience the Power of herbs? What made you wanna share your knowledge and love for plants and herbs with others?
I think my first experiments with herbs where when I was very young, probably 7 or 8. I was the youngest of 4 kids and my siblings had already left the house, so it was just me and my busy corporate parents. We were living in the woods and most of time was spent outside, befriending the wildlife.
The first person I tried to heal with herbs would be my grandmother. She was visiting us one day and had an injury to her knee on which I decided to apply herbs. She started to laugh seeing me doing so and told me I was exactly like my great greatmother. The herbalist wisdom was basically running into my blood. But my first experience properly healing someone only happened a few years later when I was already an apprentice, living in New Mexico, and one of my friends had a terrible accident. I had just collected a whole bunch of poppies and wild herbs and used them as first aids, applying them to his wounds. Not only did it calm his mind, it also helped with his pain. The power of regeneration provided by the herbs is amazing.

All your teas, tinctures, tonics, oils and skincare are handcrafted. How do you work with your clients to curate the right mix for them? Where do you find inspiration for your bespoke creations? Where did you learn the power of each plant and herb?
Seasons are my inspiration. The moon also inspires me. But most importantly, everything I do is bespoke. A mesWhen I meet a private client, I look at the person fully, both internally and externally, I read the eyes, the skin. It’s a lot of talking from their point of view, me listening and directing the questions and then once I’ve done a full accreditation, I can then make some lifestyle suggestions. Not just herbs but also daily practice, meditation with a mantra, nutrition (adjustments and suggestions) and then possibly go to herbs. My role is to help you get on in life and find the best way for you so that you don’t need me in the end.

I learnt the science of herbs from three main teachers. One told me how to forage each season: when to pick, where to pick, what to pick and how to pick and then how to serve those to people. Then from the second one I learned which herbs are good for specific organs, it was a more practical way of using herb medicines. Then the last one, my ayurvedic teacher, taught me about Indian herbs and the energy of those herbs.

What has been, so far, the biggest challenge in your entrepreneurial journey?
Keeping up with the demand. I have been pushed to keep going, create more. Which is incredible. But then the production is all done at home and with the home-schooling happening this year it has been a challenge keeping-up. I put love, energy and devotion in the things that I do and I need to find a safe and quiet space to do so, which has been challenging lately.

And the greatest reward?
When I see a comment or when someone’s tell me “that cleanse that I purchase is the best cleanser I’ve ever used in my life, can I have more” or “Shoshana, I’ve had this rash for so long and you were able to show me the way and now it’s gone” or “Shoshana, my periods were so heavy and, I don’t know how, the power of the herbs have regulated it” or “I was having such a difficult pregnancy and what you gave me made me calm down and the birth went so well” That’s my reward. It’s like electricity that goes through my body.

What’s next for TovEarth?
The website. Currently working on that. We just did a photoshoot which was so fun. Online classes have been going really well and we will keep that up, it’s easy and accessible for people.

What does a typical day in your life look like those days?
Right now it’s waking-up at 6 am and doing a short meditation thanking the divine for giving me another day. Then the kids are waking up and it’s cuddles time. We clean the house together making it a safe and quiet space for us to live in harmony, we have breakfast together and school starts. I usually go for a run around 11.30 and then have a quick lunch with the kids. They are back at work and during that time I’m working at well with Tov until about 3 pm and then after that we do after school stuffs with the kids until dinner time. 8 pm is bedtime for the kids which means time for me with my husband or a bit of extra work if needed.

I live right on the backside of the Peak so I hike the morning trail daily, that’s my outing for mummy time.
With the kids, if we wanna go out we go to the beach, We love to swim all year round.. We also love to camp. We don’t do a lot of dining out. Not because of the covid situation but because to be honest I love eating home. We keep Shabbat, Friday nights we always have our rituals and dinners with other families, but other days are mainly for us enjoying being together in our home.
Date night with my husband would be going on a new hike, just the two of us and getting lost in the woods. We just go the two of us and get lost in the woods. That’s our date nights.

by Aude Camus

The “good thing” about the current situation (not that there is much to be positive about) is that being stuck in Hong Kong has given me the opportunity to spend more time at home, discover local brands and connect with local entrepreneurs who, more than ever, need our support. I was telling you last week, in this beauty hits of June article, how I’ve also been able to take some time for self-pampering, giving my skin and my body some well-deserved love and how I’ve fallen in love with local brand RARE SkinFuel. Well, you know me, I’m a beauty junkie, always on the hunt for new beauty products to try and beauty entrepreneurs to discuss with (I blame working in the beauty industry for a few years back in France for my total obsession with anything related to beauty) so of course couldn’t resist a little beauty talk with Michelle Chen, founder of my latest favourite skincare brand.

Thanks, Michelle, for taking the time to answer a few questions. First of all, can you introduce yourself? Who are you? Where do you come from and what is your background?

I was born in Taipei but immigrated to San Francisco Bay Area when I was 12. I started my career back in the US, working as a web/graphic designer in Silicon Valley start-ups from the age of 16. Working in the Silicon Valley has given me a great variety of experiences and skills whether it is in design, merchandising, project management or successfully building and leading a start-up.
Having those experiences and skills has made it possible for me to pursue my own dream and launch my brand, RARE SkinFuel at age 37.

So, launching a beauty brand, was your dream?

I’ve been obsessed with skincare products since I was 13. One of the first thing I did when I started to make money at 16 was to pay for regular professional facials. “Working hard and spend hard” has always been my motto.

Life went one, and I started to experience the skin-aging process. I became a mother, a life transition which also translated in hormonal changes, I had my shared of sleepless nights and started to feel less confident about myself. I’ve tried almost every skincare product available on the market, hoping to regain my previous glow and confidence but at the same time wearing thick foundation and concealer to cover up the flaws developed during matrescene. But, being obsessed with skincare, I’ve known from a long time that when it comes to aging prevention is better than correction. So, when my daughter Danica turned 4, I decided to create these products I’ve been unsuccessfully looking for.

RARE isn’t just about the products. It’s also about the empowerment of women. Selfcare, self-value, self-respect. I wanted to show other women that you can time some time off to enjoy the experience of motherhood and it doesn’t mean you are giving up your career permanently. Being a mother, you still have the strength and ability to create something.

Why did you decide to use native Australian natural ingredients for your brand?
Those ingredients are edible beauty: fruits and plants that are grown from the untouched territories in Australia and packed with loads of antioxidants and have the highest skin healing power.

We use for example the Davidson Plum extract, with Davidson Plums being grape-like fruits found natively in Australian rainforests and rich in natural compounds that have powerful regenerative, antimicrobial and anti-aging effects on the skin, or the Lilly Pilly extract, with Lily Pilly being a bush native shrub grown extensively throughout Australia where the Aborigines traditionally used it for its healing properties.

What would you say has been, so far, the deepest challenge in your entrepreneurial journey?
Entrepreneurial journey is never an easy route. Every day is a new challenge but the deepest one has probably been the transition between being a mother and housewife to being an entrepreneur.

After 11 years of being married and 6 years of taking care of my daughter, even my families and friends had forgotten I had a career before. I’ve heard many negative voices and thoughts and support was not always there when I decided I wanted to launch my own brand. But I have learned to disregard the negative comments and trust my beliefs and my vision. “trust your instinct and keep going, trust your dream and let it happen if you put your thoughts in it” has been my motto.

And the greatest reward?
Receiving positive feedback from RARE SkinFuel users definitely is the greatest rewards. People love our products and when I receive a feedback such as “Thanks to RARE SkinFuel, I’m starting to not wear makeup”, I know all the work I’ve put into my brand was worth it.

What’s next for RARE?
We first launched online in October 2019 and opened our first offline store at AndFit Studio in Central earlier this year. Two more counters are coming up: one in TST in September and one in Causeway Bay in December.

Another exciting news is we just finished manufacturing our Professional line products meaning that our products will soon be available for professional facial services in various locations.

What does a typical day in your life looks like those days?

My days are usually very well-planned, especially at the moment since my daughter Danica cannot attend school because of the current situation. I have my schedule ready a week in advance.

I usually arrange my meetings in the morning, which is also when I visit my office before going for a workout. I try to squeeze 2 to 3 sessions a week in my schedule.

I recently registered for the online Women’s Leadership Program from Yale School of Management Executive education as I firmly believe they are 4 things women my age should have, and no I’m not talking a house and children:

Ability, and willingness, to keep learning

Ability to be financially independent

Confidence that comes within 1 and 2

Few close friends who you can share successes and failures with

Knowing you are a beauty guru, I’m probably not the first one to ask this question but what is your beauty routine?

The main focus of my routine is on skincare. I’d rather spend more time preparing my skin and giving it some self-love than hiding it with make-up.

Step 1: I would use our Revitalizing Cream Cleanser twice to remove impurities, revives and preps skin.

Step 2: Use our Activating Mist for an instant pick-me-up effect. It helps to rehydrate and enhances skincare products absorption.

Step 3: Eye & Lip Illuminating Serum to minimize dark circles and puffiness. It smooths the fine lines around your eyes and lips for an instant lifting effect. I love this product because I never look tired even if I sleep at night.

Step 4: After I let the Eye & Lip Illuminating Serum to absorb, I would use our Age Delaying Serum everywhere on my face and neck to smooth fine line and wrinkles. It rejuvenates and hydrates the skin and creates a nice skin complexion.

Step 5: Eye & Lip Contouring Cream. On the days when I feel my skin is very dry or to create more illuminating look, I would layer our the eye & lip contouring cream for 72-hour hydration and adds more firmness around the eye and lips. (If you have more oily skin, you can just use the serum alone during the day and wear cream at night)

Step 6: Age Delaying Cream. Same thing with the eye & lip cream. I would layer the cream to lock in 72-hour hydration and nutrition. Sometimes I use them on my cheeks, neck and avoid my T-Zone during the day. But at night, I would use apply a thick layer before bedtime after the serums.

Before I go into the sunscreen, I usually let all the skincare products I applied to set into my skin which takes about 5-10 minutes before I apply the tinted moisturizer and lipsticks before leaving the house.

I also use the Detoxifying and Restoring Australian Clay Masks on a weekly basis to enhance at-home treatment or prepare my skin before an event where more makeup will be used.

by Aude Camus

Can you guess what I love the most about my job? I mean, on top of getting invited to try out most of the new restaurants in town (food, food, food) … I’d say it’s the opportunities to meet and interview such a variety of different people with different backgrounds, nationalities, jobs, personalities … Over the past few weeks I’ve been lucky enough to meet Alain Ducasse (was so excited about this one!), Nicolas Boutin – Executive Chef at Michelin-starred restaurant Epure (write-up coming-up soon), Beth Wright – lifestyle and nutrition coach – and Tomi – entrepreneur and founder of The Polishing Lounge … see such a variety of people!

Last person I shared coffee with? Douce d’Ivry, a French photographer based in Hong Kong whose pop and lively work paying homage to Hong Kong I fell in love with. Discussing with her and getting to better understand her work, I realized we were on a same mission: sharing our love for Hong Kong, her through her photos and me through my articles so what better idea than combining them both in one write-up?

Hey Douce. Lovely to share coffee with you this morning. Can you tell me a bit more about yourself? I know that your first job wasn’t as a photographer, how and when did you decide to make this move?
Indeed, I was in the audiovisual production industry before and have lived in Paris, London and Singapore.
I’ve moved to Hong Kong in 2016 and immediately fell in love with the city and its inspiring atmosphere. This is when I decided to do something new and become a photographer.

I learnt the very basics of photography from Youtube!

Thanks to my previous experience as an audiovisual producer, I knew perfectly how to organize a set and therefore I’ve been able to very quickly arrange my own photoshoots working with models, stylists, make-up artists …
Planning is a big and important part of my job because I work mainly with film-based photography meaning that I have either 12 or 36 photos max per film.

How would you describe your style as a photographer?

I am a street and fashion photographer with a lively, very pop touch.

Where do you find inspo for your shoots?

Everywhere: a sculpture from Yayoi Kusama, a movie from Michel Gondry, a photo from Fred Herzog, a random movie, a sunflower, a girl with long blonde hair, a blue truck …

What are your fav places for shootings in Hong Kong?

I love nothing more than shooting in the street, but Hong Kong offers such a wide variety of landscapes and I sometimes also shoot in the jungle or in remote temples.

What do you find the most challenging running your own business in Hong Kong?
Not speaking Cantonese, not having the same cultural background. Starting my business without any network was also a big challenge and meeting the right people wasn’t easy at the beginning especially knowing how competitive the industry is. Seems like things have been working-out pretty well for me though since I already have more and more brands and local artists contacting me for collaboration.

And the most rewarding?
Getting recognition for my work in a country which is not originally mine.

What are you up to in the next few weeks?
I am currently hosting my first solo exhibition at Château Zoobeetle in Sheung Wan until April 15. Then, I’ll be part of Beyond Borders exhibition hosted at Loft 22 from May 18 to 21 by Les Enfants du Mékong, a French charity. I’ll also be shooting between Paris, Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

Is there anyone you’d dream of shooting or a brand you’d love to work with?
My dream would be to do portraits shots of people I admire such as Wong Kar Wai or the Daft Punk … nothing less!

Do you have any role models? Anyone you find inspiring whether it is in your personal or professional life?
Artists, no matter what their art is, are my inspiration. I could name a few such as film director Michel Gondry, photograph Martin Parr, music group IAM and painter Joan Miró.

What are your fav places for:

A lunch with friends: Man Mo Café

A fancy dinner: Carbone or at home (my husband is half French half Italian and makes the best pasta in the world)

A weekend brunch: Tokyolima

Drinks: Salon 10

A weekend getaway: Ho Chi Minh

A long holiday: Coron Island in the Philippines

by Aude

Remember, last week I was sharing my crush on Klu. founded by Karmen whom I met through Karen, founder of Barre2Barre. Are you following me? After exchanging by email, we’ve decided to share a coffee and have a nice little chit-chat about launching your brand in Hong Kong.

Karmen, can you tell me a bit more about yourself? What’s your background and how did you come to launching your own jewellery brand, Klu.?

I have worked in corporate communications across several industries including engineering, finance, telecommunications as well as a PR agency. However, I felt I wanted more; I wanted to do design and communication but never had the courage to venture on my own. At one stage I was contemplating freelance.

In 2016, I started to design and doodle bracelet designs in my little journal, and I decided to design one for myself.

I was struggling finding jewellery that was “unique”, and that not everyone was wearing. While most people in Hong Kong look for well-known brands, I like the feeling of getting something special. I also do CrossFit and Barre, and I wanted something I can wear all the time without the need to take it off. I needed something that was flush against my skin, that I didn’t need to remove and couldn’t lose.I don’t wear necklaces especially for sports so I wanted to add a touch of glamour to my workouts with a little something sparkly, and I wanted to feel empowered – “I’ve worked hard; own it”.

Once I made my first design, my then fiancé (now husband) encouraged me to turn my designs into a small business. I was determined to start my business, but was also very uncertain as this was my first time building a business and I had no idea what the process was like in in Hong Kong. In the end I took the plunge, and turned my designs into reality. It was an amazing feeling when I could touch each of my designs, and I officially launched my company in November last year. I was scared but excited, and I still am excited of where the journey will take me.

What do you find the most challenging in being an entrepreneur in Hong Kong?

Networking and how to even start. I found it quite difficult not coming from a fashion or luxury designer background so this is very new and alien to me when it comes to all things jewellery and luxury lifestyle. It was hard finding beautiful packaging, and I didn’t even know how to go about setting up the company itself i.e. the legal formalities, etc. I had to Google most of the information. And I felt quite lost at times – as I had not much advice and support to turn to.

And the most rewarding/exciting?
When I see my designs become a reality, my website going live and when people see my designs in person. Knowing I did everything on my own – from design of the bracelets, to the content on the website and the overall vision of my company … that does make me proud.

Someone you dream of seeing wearing your jewels?
Hmm that’s tough, Katrín Davíðsdóttir, a CrossFit athlete; and my all-time favourite actress, entrepreneur and mother, Reese Witherspoon. But actually no matter who it is, having someone wearing my creations is always a blessing.

What a typical day in your life look like those days?
I usually hit my CrossFit box in Quarry Bay in the morning, and if schedule allows I would head into Central for a Barre session. After which, I feel inspired and motivated and continue to work on new content and designs. Being an entrepreneur has its ups, with more flexibility with home life but it also has its down as it tends to get lonely. But you push on and there’s always tomorrow.

Fav places in Hong Kong for:
A lunch w/ friends: Oolaa Petite
A fancy dinner: Intercontinental Steak House in Tsim Sha Tsui (although I don’t eat beef!)
A night out: I’d rather do night ins with my husband
A shopping spree: Marks and Spencer’s reduced foods lol
A weekend getaway: stayed at the Kerry Hotel in Hung Hom and it was amazing! It’s secluded enough to completely relax, but close enough to the city to go out when we get bored. Plus they have this amazing well-equipped gym and an outdoor lounge area to get a nice tan.
