by Aude Camus

Is pizza the foodie trend of 2020? Looking at some of the latest and hottest restaurants openings in town, one could think so. Remember how I was eating my weight in pizza at The Pizza Project by Pirata Group just a few weeks ago ? Well, I’ve been treating myself to another pizza feast last week but this time at the latest restaurant concept by the team behind Beef & Liberty: Emmer Pizzeria & Café.

Who’s in for a perfectly crispy on the outside and deliciously chewy at the center 11 inches pizza?
Wanna know what makes Emmer’s pizza special? First, the pizza dough. Made from an ancient organic heritage whole grain (“Emmer”), the flour is mixed with water and natural yeast and left to ferment and rise for more than two days. The dough is then cut individually for each order and hand-stretch “à la minute”. Then, the Morello Forni, a custom-made rotating steel pizza oven.

But enough talking, it’s time to dig in!
Let’s order a few starters while waiting for our pizzas. The Eggplant and Parmesan (HKD 88) salad with rocket, Parmigiano Reggiano and pine nuts offers a fresh way to kick-off the feast and so does the Emmer Caprese (HKD 68) featuring whipped ricotta and roasted cherry tomatoes. Any cold cut lovers out there? Why don’t you order the Charcuterie Board (HKD 88)? But hey let’s not get too crazy with the starters because the signature pizzas are about to hit our table and I may have over ordered. Oupsie!

So, what do we have here?
The Funghi (HKD 138) with portobello, cremini (little white button mushrooms), D.O.P. Fontina (Italian cheese), Mozzarella, Taleggio (semisoft Italian cheese), Parmigiano Reggiano, thyme, is a good vegetarian option but slightly too mushroomy for me. The D.O.P Quattro Formaggi (HKD 168) with cream, D.O.P Fontina, Mozzarella, truffle Pecorino Romano, Taleggio and sage is much more my thing! And so is the special Coppa Ham & Egg Pizza (HKD 158), which basically taste like a morning egg and bacon muffin. So comforting! If you are looking to spice things up, a good idea would be to opt for the Diavola (HKD 148) with tomato sauce, D.O.P Mozzarella, salami, basil, red chilli.

Hope you saved a bit of appetite for dessert because both the Chocolate Cake and the Lemon Tart are worth grabbing a spoon. And I’m usually not a chocolate cake person!

Is Emmer Pizzeria & Café worth the trip to Admiralty? Yes, if you are craving good pizza it will definitely satisfy your craving. And they have a few al-fresco tables which is rare enough in Hong Kong to be mentioned. Last but not least, if you happen to be around Pacific Place area from 5-8pm on a weekday, Happy Hour drinks (draft beers, wines by the glass and house cocktails) are HKD 38 making it a super good deal. Oh, and if you feel like trying one of the babies mentioned above but like nothing more than a pizza night at home, Emmer’s pizzas are also available on Deliveroo.

Emmer Pizzeria & Café
Shop 408, Level 4, Pacific Place, 88 Queensway – Admiralty

This write-up is based on a complimentary media dinner hosted by Emmer Pizzeria & Café. No money has been paid by Emmer Pizzeria & Café for publishing this article.

If you work in One Island South, you’re probably already a regular here. For the others, it’s high time you went and discovered this quaint cafe on the 22nd floor of a building you’re probably never set foot in. Look beyond the rough concrete finish of the entrance and the lift, OK you’ve been warned, this isn’t the Ritz! Once you get to the 22nd floor, it’s on the right. Welcome to an industrial loft that doesn’t lack in cosy. Depending on the hour you can order a soup and a salad or stroll up for afternoon tea for a coffee and carrot cake. No matter, you won’t be disappointed - It’s all fresh and delicious. A little birdie told us that the pizzas are amazing (thin crispy crust, just like we like it). To eat on the spot or to take away, whatever your schedule says. We can also totally see ourselves lounging around here for brunch, enjoying their lemon pancakes or smoked salmon scrambled eggs. Bon appétit!

3/3rds
22D, Yally Industrial Building, 6 Yip Fat Street, Wong Chuk Hang
3462 2951 / info@three-3rds.com

http://www.three-3rds.com/
https://www.facebook.com/3thirdshk
