by Aude Camus

One of the perks of being my own boss? Having flexible hours and being able to work from pretty much anywhere I want, whether it’s home, a hotel abroad (preferably by the pool) or a local coffee-shop. After few tests, I think coffee-shops are actually my fav place to work from because 1. Working from a coffee-shop actually means I get to get out of home and therefore can’t spend the day in pjs (I know spending the day in pjs looks like a great plan but believe me it’s actually not that cool, and I usually feel very guilty after doing so) 2. There are always people like me, working from coffee-shops and I like this kind of studious yet relax and quite hype atmosphere 3. I can sip on litters of coffee 4. I get to order avocado toast with my coffee
This last reason definitely being the main reason why I love working from coffee-shops if I am being entirely honest. I am just obsessed with avocado toasts! And after several months of tastings, I now have my fav places when it comes to yummy avocado toasts. Because yes, believe me, not two avocado toast taste the same ever!

(by alphabetical order)

1. Cupping Room

      By Delphine

Just imagine: you’re having a nice coffee in a 50’s-themed coffee shop when you notice there are still price tags on the chairs, tables and sofas. OK they just opened but what’s the deal?!
Out of the goodness of your heart you inform the nice waitress of these mishaps but she assures you everything is as it should be. That’s right, everything you see you can bought back home! Chairs, stools, tables, sofas, coffee tables and even the lighting! Unsurprisingly you won’t find two of the same chairs and the sofas come in all colors. All furniture is eco-friendly, made to order in Thailand. Based on the different styles on displays, you can choose your color, size, height and fabric. In fact the coffee shop belongs to Style 50s brand who also have 2 huge showrooms in HK.

What’s happening in your plate? You can enjoy your tea or coffee with a traditional English breakfast (eggs, bacon, bagels, toasts), a pasta salad or a snack later on in the day, or even Tofu Fa, the house specialty that’s made fresh every morning (we’re not giving you more details, if you’ve never tried it, it’s a must).

Good Old Days Café
9-11 Shelter Street, Causeway Bay
Tel: 2320 1198

The bill:
Espresso : 26HK$
Teas: 28-32 HK$
50s All Day Luxury Breakfast : 88HK$
Mushroom Linguine: 72HK$
Tofu Fa: 18HK$

Showrooms Styles 50s:
http://www.style50s.com/
10B, On Shong Industrial Building, 2-16 Wo Liu Hang Rd, Fo Tan, Shatin
Shop 1019, 10/F, Horizon Plaza, 2 Lee Wing Street, Ap Lei Chau

Edit - January 7th 2018: this restaurant is now closed

By Aude

If you are a real Queen B, and a breakfast of burgers are your favorite meal, and one morning without bacon for you is like Paris without the Eiffel Tower or Hong Kong without the ICC, then we have news for you: Head to LKF for a wholesome breakfast.

Double D recently launched its breakfast menu, a real American breakfast but with fresh quality ingredients, open from Monday to Friday from 8am to 11.30am. For early risers, you can order the Double Down, with its juicy brisket cooked for 36 hours, melted cheddar, and perfectly cooked eggs, fresh coleslaw, and homemade BBQ sauce, all between two beautiful pieces of toasted bread. Authentic American fare! And for those who prefer a lie in Double D is open all day long.

Do you prefer bacon than BBQ sauce or England versus the US? Try the English muffins. For mornings when you are in a rush, simply pick up a Breakfast Buddy, an English muffin stuffed with bacon, cheddar, tomatoes and Double D’s secret homemade sauce, easier to chomp down on your way to the MTR station than a full blown burger. Besides, Double D is just 3 minutes away from the Central MTR station. For mornings where your body is crying out for protein, add an egg and minced beef, have The Farmhouse. This will give you the pick me up you need for the rest of thee day.

The food has calories dripping everywhere, but its greasy, decadent goodness is completely worth it. Just be careful to eat in moderation.

Pssst…For those with a sweet tooth, double chocolate and the caramel fondant is to die for.

Double D
Shop E, G/F, Duke Wellington House, 22 Wellington Street, Central.
Open Monday - Friday from 8am til late
Open Saturday from 12pm til late
Closed on Sunday

Menu:
Double Down: HKD78
Breakfast Buddy: HKD28
The Farmhouse: HKD58
Coffee: HKD18 + free refills

www.doubledburger.com
