March 2020 edit: RECH is now closed

by Aude

Weekend brunch as its perks but aren’t you sometimes craving for something a little fancier? I mean unlimited buffet, free-flow Champagne … we all love it. But I also love having the option to go for something chicer: because I got something to celebrate or just because I feel like treating myself to lunch by world acclaimed Chef. Who says you always need a special occasion to enjoy yourself?

Weekend Lunch at Rech by Alain Ducasse is just the perfect treat if you are a seafood lover like me. Plus nothing quite like enjoying seafood while overlooking the sea right? And when it comes to the view, Rech by Alain Ducasse, definitely is a winner with its dining room overlooking Victoria Harbour.

Shall we start? This seafood platter just looks too yummy, would be a pity not to dig in right away: oysters, shrimps, whelks and clams ... what a fresh start.

You’ll then get to choose a starter and a main and if I may, I’ll definitely recommend trying on the Grand Aioli. Not the kind of dish you would usually find in Hong Kong but such a yummy beautiful Mediterranean treat.

By the time Rech’s famous Camembert reaches your table you’ll be pretty full already but believe me, you’ll find room for this one. Most likely the best Camembert I had in a long time and just perfect w/ a glass of red wine Intuition Un Coin sur Terre 2016. Just take your time, enjoy, there’s no rush … it’s the weekend after all!

In the mood for dessert? I bet you are! Choice is not easy but I must confess an absolute crush on their Topezienne tart! Probably my fav French dessert of all and the first I see one in Hong Kong and not just any one: a super yummy one w/ a strong taste of orange blossom, just the way I like it.

Another thing that I love about this weekend lunch? Service is on point! Plus, they won’t rush you out to give your table to someone else. Weekends are for resting and slowing things done and they do get it very well. Seat, relax and enjoy another sip of Moët & Chandon Rosé Impérial.

Weekend lunch at Rech
5-courses menu : Shellfish & Crustaceans / Starter / Main / Camembert / Dessert HKD 588
Wine pairing unlimited HKD 388
Wine by the glass HKD 88

Rech by Alain Ducasse
Lobby Level Intercontinental Hong Kong
18 Salisbury Road
Kowloon

July 2019 edit: this restaurant is now closed

by Aude

Remember how excited I was about Breton Chef Oliver Bellin taking over the kitchen at The Ocean ? Well, that was just a beginning.
Last week, just coming back from a (well deserved if you ask me) break in Brittany, west of France, I decided to make that holidays feeling last a little longer and went for a seafood feast at The Lighthouse Bistro, the marine-inspired bistro located in The Ocean restaurant.

Welcomed by a quite fascinating replica of the five-masted ship France II and the always beautiful view on the bay, I sat in ready to postpone a little further my post-holidays diet. Anyway it was a Friday, calories don’t count on weekends and Friday lunch is already weekend (right?) … Am I the only one to always find great excuses for treating myself to way too much food?

Starting my trip back to Brittany with a seafood platter: French oysters, clams, whelks (my little weakness), periwinkles and shrimps. So fresh and tasty. And perfectly paired with grilled bread and homemade buckwheat butter (so yummy!). Moving on to the starters: the Octopus – poached and deep-fried octopus on a potato and bay spinach salad – for me and the Burrata di Bufala for my lunch companion.

My fav dish of this lunch? The signature Boston Lobster Parmentier: enormous and tender bites of lobster topped up with a luscious potato puree and served in a rich and perfectly creamy lobster sauce. The ultimate comfort dish! I could eat this again and again and again. But you might also want to check the grilled selection: Sardines, French Seabass, Brittany or Boston Lobster …

I was warned to make sure to leave some room for dessert, well make sure you do it too! The Giant Profiterole is something you don’t wanna miss! Nothing like vanilla ice-cream melting in a perfectly creamy hot chocolate sauce … Or you can choose a slightly lighter option such as the perfectly balanced Strawberry Millefeuille , a crispy homemade puff pastry and a soft and creamy custard.

Well, not that I needed any proof of it but Brittany, sailing your coasts is always a true feast!

The Lighthouse Bistro
Shop 303, Lobby A, 3/F, The Pulse, Repulse Bay

The Platter: HKD 488
The Octopus: HKD 88
Burrata di Bufala: HKD 88
Boston Lobster Parmentier: HKD 188
Giant Profiterole: HKD 88
Strawberry Millefeuille: HKD 88

      By Delphine

An extensive two-month makeover but it was worth it! When stepping down to the lower ground floor of the Langham, we plunge directly in a US vintage atmosphere, made of wood and steel. It seems we are in the heart of a shipyard chic scene. First impression is great and we immediately forget about the bustling Tsim Sha Tsui. Beautiful photography are the only thing which remind us we are in Asia.

We had only just sat down, when the waitress fill our glass with champagne. We’re here to have a good time, right? Lobster on the buffet table is calling me (or I think it is…) as well as the oysters, the marinated fishes and the shrimps…. It’s gonna be hard to resist. What I haven’t planned was the pumpkin soup served on the table, followed by the pan-roasted foie gras and the grilled crab. Delicious. I cannot really say I am still hungry when the main comes, but how could I leave this lovely pancetta-rolled seabass? Champagne helps the digestion, just keep it easy and take your time.

So now here I am, ready for the dessert: a fruity pinky cheesecake magnum. Promised, tonight, it will only be a green salad…

More info : http://www.langhamhotels.com/en/the-langham/hong-kong/dining/bostonian-seafood-and-grill/
Address: 8 Peking Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong
Phone: +853 2375 1133
Opening hours: Saturday and Sunday: noon-3pm
Brunch:

Seafood and salad buffet / soup / foie gras / main / dessert : 588HKD

Free flow champagne: + 300HKD

Kids : 368HKD

      By Lily

Sunday Brunch is always the highlight of a successful week end. And what's better than a luxury one with a breath-taking view ? Then give a try to the first HK restaurant from Moscow based Bulldozer Group?

Getting off the lift, the first impression is wow! The restaurant boasts an impressive 10, 000 sqf space with an amazing rooftop terrace (to be kept in mind for after work drinks or next dates!).
The view is breathtaking! The decor is contemporary and we love the atmosphere with the huge windows and crystal chandeliers.

The brunch starts with luxury – Siberian Sturgeon caviar served with blinis, egg, shallot and crème fraiche. That’s a nice start!

We were impressed by the gorgeous buffet including mixed oysters, a selection of sashimis, a yummi ceviche, a delicious tuna tartare (with avocado and truffle), a colorful beetroot salad with watermelon and feta, an amazing Greek salad, and a rainbow trout carpaccio. There is also a Caesar salad station to create the salad of your choice!
Everything was super tasty and the quality of the ingredients is amazing.

Here comes the main, with three options to choose from: salmon, tuna or chicken. My choice was the grilled miso salmon with lime and it was absolutely delicious.

Last but not least, the sweet touch! The dessert platter with fresh fruits and pastries (yuzu tart, peanut butter bar and cheesecake) was simply perfect.

Created by executive chef James Cornwall, the Sunday brunch is a great option to add to your ‘to do list’.
The only damper is the service – as it is often the case in Hong Kong: slow and not paying enough attention.
Plus we were served cava instead of the menu listed Perrier Jouet champagne.
However, despite those hick-ups it’s definitely a must-try for delicious fresh seafood, the amazing buffet with high quality ingredients and the stunning view.

Would you resist following up your brunch with a drink (or two!) on the beautiful terrace? ;) We didn't!

Seafood Room Brunch Menu
$598 per person +$338 for free-flow Perrier Jouet Champagne

Address – 26/F, 535 Jaffe Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong
www.seafoodroom.hk
Facebook
