By Delphine

For ages, Sanat, Indian chef with several awards has been saying that the best Indian food is the street food. The kind of food that is shared, and eaten with the fingers, or piled on to naan bread for takeaway.

That’s why he has launched Bindaas, inspired by street food: A colourful and vibrant bar, offering an interesting selection of cocktails. My favorite? The Sheik Chili made from mango, coriander and vodka. But the Indian Ocean or the Chutney Mojito didn’t look bad either.

The tables are large enough to welcome a group of friends or a large family. Get ready to relax. Dishes of every shape and size are offered: skewers, meatballs, pancakes, and other treats or even Naanzza (a mix of Naan bread and pizza)... As the dishes circulate around the room, we reached our fingers out to the right and to the left, asking for more, trying different dishes, and at a certain point, requesting for extra seasoning, the chef obliged. One single word that describes our experience? “Conviviality”.

To make the story short: Bindaas, an Indian restaurant like no other, has just opened its doors, just below PMQ!

For more information: http://iambindaas.com
Address: 33 Aberdeen Street, Central
Telephone: +852 2447 9998
Menu for 3: 1,083HK$

1 Naanza vegetarian: 108HKD

Safron shrimps: 158HKD

Cheese and vegetable skewers: 128HKD

Pork vindaloo: 168HKD

Bombay style pao with goat cheese: 108HKD

Chicken masala: 158HKD

3 cocktails: 255HKD

      By Delphine

Yes you’ve noticed, I’m a huge fan of Asian cuisine. But even if I’m rarely disappointed by the array of flavors in my plate, I do think many places don’t deliver on setting and atmosphere.

Fortunately, at Tamarind’s not only are dishes copious and delicious – with a choice of Thai and Indian food – but the decor is modern and tasteful.
The ultimate treat: their rooftop terrace! It’s spacious, comfortable and offers a breathtaking view of the Kowloon skyline. Last but not least: the kitchen is open all day!

Make the best of the Hong Kong autumn and go enjoy a curry under the parasols at Tamarind.

Last bit of advice, book quickly for the October 1st fireworks, their special fireworks evenings are truly memorable.

TAMARIND
2/F., Sun Hung Kai Centre, 30 Harbour Road, Wan Chai
Web : http://www.mayfare.com.hk/tamarind-overview.php
Tel: 2598 1222
Every day: 11 am - 11 pm

The bill for 2: 568HK$
Shrimps spring rolls : 88HK$
Pomelo salad: 88HK$
Thai Seafood Red Curry: 158HK$
Chicken Makhani: 108HK$
Fried mixed vegetables with garlic: 98HK$
Tandoori Roti: 28HK$

      By Delphine

« Black Cumin cures fever, Curry Leaf the germ killer, Cinnamon fights toxines… »: thus begins Jojo menu. You got it, over here spices are the stars. The minute you get through the front door, the different scents send you straight to Rajasthan. A la carte you don’t know where to start, so we go for the buffet in order to taste a bit of everything, and without regret. The curry is as spicy as in Bombay (or almost), the lamb masala is beautifully fragrant and the Manglorian chilli chicken is true to its name. Vegetarians will also be delighted: Korma aubergines, Gobi cauliflower, Makani lentils… dishes that awaken the taste buds and send you to faraway lands over lunch. Not to mention the Naans, served hot at the table, you will cheerfully dip in every sauce. On our way out we just need to order a tuk-tuk to go visit the Taj-Mahal.

JOJO
website : http://www.jojofood.com/profile.htm
2/F David House, 37-39 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai
Tel: 2527 3776
Monday-Sunday: 11am-3pm / 6pm-11pm

The bill:
Buffet lunch menu: 98HKD incl. unlimited drinks + 10% tax
Dinner à la carte: starters around 40HK$, mains 80HK$ and desserts 35HK$

      By Delphine

Tonight’s dilemma, your man feels like tandoori, you want a Tom Yam soup while your friends feel like Satay. Quite the conundrum indeed. You have 3 options: 1) you each go to a different restaurant, not the most social solution, 2) half of you moan all evening, far from ideal or 3) you head over to Spice in TST and everyone’s happy!
At Spice they have no less than 3 specialized chefs: The Indian, the Thai and the Malay. But only one owner, adorable and attentive to your every need, the service is impeccable. Menu in hand, my husband concentrated on samosas and chicken masala, I went for pomelo salad and Thai prawn green curry. We’ll be back to try the Malaysian food. Everything was delicious, beautifully fragrant and spiced to perfection. Speaking of which, if you don’t like spices, you’re in the wrong place. A warm naan and basmati rice were just what we needed to lap up all the sauces. Mark my word, we’ll be back!

SPICE
2/Floor, No.1 Knutsford, TST, Kowloon
web : http://www.spice-restaurant.hk/index.php?goto=home
Tel: 2191 9880
Every day: noon-3pm | 6pm-midnight

The Bill for 2: 520HK$
Samosa : 48HK$
Pomelo salad: 88HK$
Chicken Masala: 118HK$
Green Thai Prawn Curry: 118HK$
Fried vegetables: 85HK$
Garlic Naans : 28HK$
Rice: 35HK$

      By Delphine

It's not new, but this Indian restaurant is a safe bet. The owner is a Hong Konger of Indian descent. He speaks perfect English and welcomes you with a big smile.

The decor is simple but nice and clean, and the tables are nicely spaced out, the place is relaxing. Since it was difficult to wait for my girlfriends (who arrived late), while taking in the appetizing perfumes (and beautiful) without jumping on the tandoori chicken, fish curry, lamb masala, Indian vegetables, chutney and samosas, I devoured a warm naan at the table and chatted with the owner. Here it is, finally, here is the latest arrival. It is time to try out these different dishes. I am trying to stay cool (trying hard ...). Mmmmmmhhhhh ... .. (translation: Good is good!).

For dessert, while we were on our third dish of fresh fruit salad, the owner brought a candle on a cake to celebrate my Indian girlfriend's birthday. A nice way to end this very pleasant meal, all for a reasonable price.

Ganga's
G/F 57-59 Wyndham Street, Central
See on a map
Tel: 2537 7933

Opening hours: Mon-Fri: 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm, 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Sat - Sun: 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Buffet: 98 HKD + 10% including one drink (beer, soft, coffee, tea ...)

www.facebook.com/GangasIndianCuisine
