Farewell season is starting: my mindfulness advice as a Sophrologist

June 14th 2017

By Céline Pellarin

June often means saying goodbye. Whether to friends, neighbors, colleagues, teachers. Never easy. While the word “goodbye” has garnered a rather negative emotional connotation, there is another way, a more positive way, to perceive it:
  • First acknowledge your pain. Resist the natural yet unwise tendency to escape from it. You are sad, and it’s OK
  • Take a moment to look back and reflect on the journey we’ve shared with this person. You probably have been exposed to simple yet invaluable experiences that you might have taken for granted. Think of what you have shared: happy moments, laughs, tears… Think also of the qualities you particularly cherish in this person: sense of humor, generosity, energy.  Become aware of what make this person so special to your heart .You might want to list, to visualize, to gather again what are the most meaningful aspect of your relationship
  • Realize that if there is pain, it’s because of this sharing, mutual love and care. Their positive impact on both of you will remain, no matter how many miles separate you. So, is it worth it? Would you do it again?
  • As a beautiful farewell gift, you might even write a card to your friend to say how blessed you are to have this person in your life and how much you value the moments you together.
To conclude, let’s keep in mind the wisdom of Winnie the Pooh: “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

Wishing to feel your life is filled with meaningful relationships! Take care,

Celine

Sophrology is similar to mindfulness. It works on the basis of being in the present moment, however, it is more focused on relaxation and feelings of pleasure. Very well established in France, yet fairly new to HK, Hong Kong Madame is happy to share more French positive vibes to help us go through our busy lives feeling a little more relaxed and happy!
