“Busy Life”: my relaxation advice as a Sophrologist. A break wherever you are.

“I can’t make it, I’m too busy” is often the excuse I hear for not practising sophrology, meditation, relaxation. Especially here in HK where busyness seems to reach another level! “Yet I need it so badly” is often the sentence that comes right after!

I am happy to share with you a sophrology practice which is totally compliant with HK lifestyle. It’s efficient, yet it does not require neither a lot of time, nor a silent environment. You may practice at home (even if your kids are screaming), standing in a packed MTR, at your desk in a crowded open space (and even during a meeting). Will you find excuses not to take a break now?

Three easy steps to pause wherever you happen to be
  • However noisy or quiet your direct environment might be, take a minute or so to listen to the sounds far away from you. Not judging them, simply noting them with curiosity, like if you were trying to list them. For example, if you are in the tube: the noise of the MTR moving forward, the doors opening, the “please stand back from the doors” …
  • Then for another minute, with the same approach, concentrate on the sounds close to you. For example, your neighbor’s candy crush, the fidget spinner of the teen in front of you …
  • At last, try to hear the sounds from your own body. Probably your breath will be the easiest one to catch. And if it is too noisy around you, simply imagine the gentle ocean sounds that comes along your inhale and your exhale. Enjoy!
A couple of mini breaks throughout your day can already make a difference in your daily life or lead you to longer practice.

Calm and silence are two different things. As daily HK life can lack of silence, let’s make sure we create inner calm.

I’d love to hear your comments!

Take care,

Celine

Sophrology is similar to mindfulness. It works on the basis of being in the present moment, however, it is more focused on relaxation and feelings of pleasure. Very well established in France, yet fairly new to HK, Hong Kong Madame is happy to share more French positive vibes to help us go through our busy lives feeling a little more relaxed and happy!
