A very piggy feast!

A very piggy feast!
Gage Street has turn itself into a very foodie street lately. Trendy and yummy grocery shops have bloomed between the fruits and vegetables stalls and I thought you may wanna discover the latest addition to this foodie street with me. But I am warning you, be ready for a very piggy feast!

Bienvenida, Welcome to The Counter by Deiberica – a little spot of sunshine and piggy gluttony in the heart of Central. So you think you know a great deal about ham? Well, how much do you know about Spanish ham – Jamon Iberico? Let’s start the tasting and I will teach you a little more!
The Counter by Deiberica is a family and friendly business from A to Z: fine products from different but all family farms in Spain – from Jamon Iberico to olives and olive oil – a co-owner mastering the art of jamon cutting while his mother is cooking traditional Hong-Kong style soup with the left-over bones …
Speaking of soup, this tasty smell makes me hungry! Let’s start the Jamon tasting!
Will go from softest to strongest, if you don’t mind. You do not want to spoil the taste and softness of the youngest one by doing things upside down. :

- Jamon Iberico de Cebo, a 24 months curing Jamon from a 100% grain fed pig
- Jamon Seleccion, a 36 months curing one from a pig that was fed half on grain and half on acorn
- Jamon Iberico de Bellota, a 48 months curing Jamon from a 100% acorn fed pig

The Iberico de Cebo is like a sweat treat, tasty and buttery in the mouth. I love the 36 months because it is very subtle but my fav is definitely the Bellota, strong taste that sticks to the tongue and stays in the mouth with this after-taste of nuts and acorn. Love it! You have to taste it! Once you go Jamon Iberico, you never go back … Well of courses the price is not exactly the same of your usual ham, but this unique taste is priceless … Affordable luxury!

And if you fancy something more street-food style, they get you covered as well! The Iberico Ham sandwich is a killer: toasted baguette, tomatoes and olive oil – pure pan con tomate style – and Iberico ham … Less is more! The Iberico BBQ pork on rice is also worth trying … tasty and crispy Iberico pork, perfectly cooked rice, boiled egg and cucumber … This iconic Hongkongese dish tastes even more delicious with a Spanish twist!

Ok, I got the perfect plan for you: you go there for lunch time, you grab some take-away food, you cannot resist to the way too attractive Jamons on the counter and they cut you just a slice of each for you to try … BAM love at first bite. Come on, do not resist. Bring 50 or 100 g of freshly cut Jamon back home and enjoy it with a glass of wine. How perfect?
